Good Lord. If Mike Smith played the last game of the season and didn't suffer a training injury, he can play in NHL games this year. Or retire (and the Oilers take the consequences).
Basically this is an argument that the Oilers had a guy who had a career ending injury and played him anyway.
A "nagging groin injury" isn't LTIR. It's the type of thing that Tanev dresses with every game.
