I'm not sure about the 'back dating' but you cant bank LTIR so if Yamamoto was injured and it was relatively short-term then there really wasnt any benefit to putting him on LTIR, but now that they need the cap space for Kane there is.
Whats really funny though is that at some point they're going to have to re-activate Yamamoto which means somebody's gotta go.
If you want to be really pissed at circumvention, then be pissed that Keith 'retired' and then almost immediately got a Front Office job with the Oilers.
