Perun latest video is one of his better ones IMO, and very topical. Very informative and covers a lot of ground.
Some takeaways include
- Even in defensive trench warfare, APC's are extemely useful. When a unit of 200+ men can be dispersed on a line stretching to 2000+ meters (in part to avoid being easy pickings for artillery), the ability to quickly move men one from part of the line to another is crucial to prevent breakthroughs. Without mobility on the defensive side, it's just that much easier for the enemy to overwhelm one part of the line. And armored mobility helps a lot in cutting down on casualties during those movements.
- As the war goes on, we're likely to see the quality of gear for Russian troops to polarize even further. As the current vehicles break down or get destroyed, the favored troops will be getting modern vehicles fresh off the production lines as replacements, often better stuff than they currently have, while less fortunate troops will be handed increasingly old and rusty stuff as Russia simultaneously keeps digging deeper into it's stockpiles to make up for the fact that the rate of new production is nowhere near the rate of vehicles lost.
- "Russia has a large modern military, but the modern part ain't large and the large part ain't modern." That's just very well put.
