He also suffered from the effects of multiple concussions. I recall an interview where he said getting hit made him feel good and craved it. He likened it to an addiction. He talked about how by the time he retired, he couldn't even find his way to the arena anymore, he forgot how to tell time, couldn't recognize people, and the other guys on the team play simple card games with him and would always beat him because he just couldn't think any more.
Seemed like a good guy off the ice, but man, was he a mean player. Back in a time when of course every team had a player like that on their roster.
