I’m sure most of us have played on a team with players like this. Incredibly skillful but just not motivated to do everything to be successful as a team. Everything is rosy and everyone looks the other way as long as the results are good.

No one says anything for fear of disrupting things and it becomes a slow burn. I don’t think that anyone has taken on Mavi and Pissy in greaserville for fear of trade demands and jobs. Funnily enough, it’s most likely to be Kane to challenge Mavi and that’s not exactly a great role model either.

Seeing the Sportsnet magazine cover reminds me that this is a player that has always been feted for his offensive skills and never for his team skills.

Some snark this morning? The more individual awards Mavi picks up, the more it justifies this approach and the more it will cost to re-sign him. The less individual success means oilers don’t support him. The less team success, the more the Oilers are blamed and trade requests will be forthcoming. No crazy trade packages? The contract runs out and Mavi moves to whatever his dream destination is. It’s beautiful.
