He's supposed to make those saves, its why he's there. I'd say on an average penalty shot its probably a 50/50 split between shooter and goalie.
On a breakaway the odds are a lot more nebulous, it could be more to the shooters favour depending on where he receives the puck, how much speed he gets and where the nearest defender is.
Or it could be far, far more in favour of the goalie because the shooter has to corral the puck, settle it, all at speed and still have enough room and wherewithal to make a play and get a shot off.
Either way though, the value of those saves from Markstrom cannot be overstated.
I've been as hard if not harder on Markstrom than most, but those saves were clutch.

I've been pretty hard on Markstrom this season but he has been his best the past couple of weeks since the Dallas series.
Flames are 6-3-1 the past 10 now. Prob the best stretch since the beginning of the season. and we got some pretty easy games coming up.
