it's a core part of the problem. McDavid is untouchable in their media because they want to make Edmonton feel as cushy as possible to entice him to re-sign. they're so deathly afraid of losing this player that they never should've been awarded that they'll skirt the myriad of issues that he brings to the team, and convince themselves that they don't exist, because look! points and pretty goals
they'll only jokingly touch on/suggest things he can improve when he's on the mic, and word it as a "group" issue to keep from poking the bear or making him feel personally targeted
at the same time, enabling his and leon's half-game approach and lack of leadership every year is a contributing part of what has led to the repeating pattern of the same ****, different year
their spineless glorified bloggers/pom pom wavers can pat themselves on the back for rolling over in favour of the country club culture that is now being maligned
it's all rather hilarious when you think about it
