He is the prime reason he had to deal with the offseason mess. He lost control of Gaudreau by allowing him to play out his contract and he gave Tkachuk the bridge deal and simply didn't read that the player wanted to play in the USA. Everything many fans had said for years about Gaudreau and Tkachuk wanting to go to US teams came true and it's almost like the GM was blindsided by that possibility. Like I said before he may have been in a situation with ownership where trading Gaudreau for assets and and making the team worse in the interim wasn't a possibility due to ownership only caring about making the playoffs year to year. However that's speculation as for all we know Treliving has autonomy and gambled on both players returning. Either way the "horrible hand" was entirely created by the Flames ownership/management.
