After poking around, it seems the solution is to buy an Alum block. Fingers on the Alum block and apparently grip levels go way, way up.

Curious to know if this means alum blocks are useful on stuff like opening slippery jars... so I guess I'm buying an Alum block!

The first part of the video is them using some tool to launch the old blade out of the head with surprising force. I wouldn't want to randomly lose an old used sharp blade. This thing looks like some straight blade/disposable razor hybrid.

Conceptually, I don't have an issue with it, but personally, the launching of the blade with force is a bit of a no-no for me due to kids at home and clumsiness.

Personally, I'd suggest dabbling into a proper safety razor instead.

This one looks decent. It's $70 to buy in for Merkur, has a 1-5 dial for adjustment.

Or it's $50 for the Rockwell 2C (unsure if there are shipping costs on Rockwell website, but more colors, but shipping included if from Amazon). Rockwell 2C has a 2/4 plate which is mild (but not disposable haphazard mild) and a medium.

Then for a sampler blade pack, this one is $20, but would likely last you half a year if not the entire year. The main ones to test are probably Astra, Gillette 7/platinum and Feather. Others might have left over samplers that they'd be happy to give to someone wanting to dabble (sorry, I've gifted all of my spares already).

After that, you figure out what you like and you buy 50-100 blades for $15-30 bucks and that will last you for years. 100 could possibly even stretched to last a decade (hence why some of us might have "spares").

I mean... unless someone else in this thread with a decent "entry level" safety razor like the Rockwell 2C/6C wouldn't mind selling to upgrade to something with more heft/longer handle?

Seems like a perfect travel razor. Neat!
