Cliff Fletcher was the architect that made the Flames the dominant team in the NHL. Since he left, they haven't come close to the team they were when he was there. Look at these drafts:
1980: Cry, Lavallee, Konroyd, Loob
1981: MacInnis, Vernon
1983: Quinn, Bradley, Berezan, Makarov
1984: Roberts, Ranheim, Hull, Hrdina, Suter
1985: Nieuwendyk, Grimson
1986: Glynn
1987: Matteau, Fleury
He traded for Doug Gilmour, Joe Mullen, Lanny McDonald, Mike Bullard, Brad McCrimmon, John Tonelli, Carey Wilson, and others.
He signed college free agents Jamie Macoun and Joel Otto.
He deserves to be up there. Without Cliff, the Flames have no cup, no Lanny, no Fleury, no MacInnis, no Nieuwendyk, etc..
