I don't think Tkachuk got enough credit for how skilled he was. I didn't think he was that far off from Gaudreau talent wise, obviously very different in terms of the style they play, but not far off in terms of the level if that makes sense.
I also think Gaudreau misses Tkachuk more than the other way around. Tkachuk hid Gaudreau's greatest weakness which was along the half boards in his own end and I think it's getting exposed again in Columbus. Tkachuk has the elite ability to absorb contact and make a strong outlet play to his linemate on the breakout and that just absolutely fueled Johnny's transition game which was obviously his greatest strength.
Without Tkachuk though, Johnny's probably getting pinned in his own end constantly and not getting nearly the same number of looks in transition. Not to mention, his team is just atrocious with one of the worst depth charts in the league. Just a bad situation that he signed up for, hope his home life is good though.
