Fact of the matter is the guy played out his contract, and played well. He was entitled to make whatever choice he wanted and not obligated to remain here at all. You can whine about the choice he made, and speculate as to why he made it but that isn't going to be informed speculation as you aren't privy to all the factors he may have considered.
I wish he would have made up his mind a bit sooner and allowed the flames to plan as much as they could have, but the flames could have also locked him down earlier etc. It is a nuanced process, and strange to get very worked up over a guy playing within the rules.
