Except it isn’t, because I don’t want to fill my ignore list with people I actually enjoy, respect, and feel have something of value to offer even if that value is as small as just entertaining me.
And so what if it works? Do you think he’s having a big impact on the community here? Do you think you are by combatting him? It’s mostly regulars that post here, and there are countless opportunities to combat bad or poorly formed ideas with posters that are actually open to discussing them, so why is he so special to you?
You’re ensuring he continues offering it by giving him the attention he’s desperate for, so you’re just playing a zero sum game. If he was someone you could have a conversation with like you and I, that’d be fruitful, but he’s just seeking attention and trolling for reactions. You could even argue that the amount of attention people give him probably makes others take him more seriously and buy his trolling even more than if he just never got a reaction. But do whatever.
