It’s a double edged sword.

The Flames did have some leverage to exert during the 2015 negotiation and they should have 100% used it. That’s business.if Treliving isn’t using that leverage, he’s not doing his job.

If Gaudreau was harbouring any hard feelings from the previous negotiation, it only supports the narrative that he might be a bit immature. The penny pinching argument is completely at odds with Gaudreau leaving +$15M on the table to leave last summer, so I’m not buying the Flames being cheap on that front.

If the Flames anre considered cheap amongst the players, it could probably be attributed to facilities such as the arena and/or practice facilities. Then again, they didn’t seem to have sn issue with extending Huberdeau or Weegar. Kadri also came here for less than what he could have got from Columbus or the Islanders, I believe.
