Even if you do that the Flames played 15 games in December (so far). They've faced 2 teams in the top third for goals against, and 10 in the bottom third for goals against. If you want to choose gaa instead it's essentially the same. 3 in the top third, and 9 in the bottom third.
Talking about them scoring more lately is biased in itself just based on who they are playing. They are still struggling to score.
Even if you leave SJ in, against the worst teams in the league for GA or GAA they would still be in the bottom half (near the middle) of the NHL based on average g/gp.
I'm not saying they haven't looked better, they have, but they are still struggling to score.
