Okay, I'll raise my hand and I'm not doing it to be a contrarian. I legitimately prefer this weather over +30.

For me, this summer was miserable. I hated how hot it was. I just sweat and sweat. It drains me. I hate riding my bike because it's too hot. I hate sitting outside. I hate the sun beating down on me. Sitting in my house with AC is fine and all, but like anybody else I prefer windows open with a cool night breeze washing through the house. It was impossible this year.

This weekend, on the other hand, was great. Was in Canmore and Banff and the streets, stores and restaurants were fairly dead because all the pussies stay home. We walked everywhere - just wore long johns, a toque and - not sure if you I've mentioned I own one - my Canada Goose parka. It was glorious.

Today I woke up in Canmore and it was -30. Looked out my window, remote started my car (which I had queued up to full heat when I parked it the day before) and had a cup of coffee. Wandered outside to my toasty warm car 20 minutes later and off I went to Calgary. It was awesome because the sun wasn't up yet and I could drive in darkness with my music up. Sunrise just started as I was approaching Calgary. Like, I don't understand what could be better than that. It was one of the best weekends I've had in forever.

I've said it before and I've said it again...proper winter clothes and a remote car starter erases anything bad about winter.

I'd like to be a reverse snowbird when I retire. I'm going to run away from any temps above 25. As far as mild temps go, I do love around 18. Sitting on a patio in a hoodie is super fun, so it's not like I want to go live in the arctic or something, but I really enjoy this time of year and this weather for the few months we are prone to super cold temps.

One thing I don't understand about the people who complain so vocally and passionately about how much they hate the cold, though, is why the fata don't you do something about it? It honestly can't be that hard to figure out how to move to California or Arizona or Florida or somewhere with warm weather. I get if this is your first winter here and it has caught you off guard, but if you're over 18 and bitching about the cold year after year just STFU or move. It's really on you if you haven't figured out that it gets warmer as you move further south.
