But why take any risk at all? Going down means 100% OT, once you start the laterals it becomes a non-zero possibility disaster strikes. Even if you want to say it's a 0.001% chance it ends the way it did, it's probably about the same % they get a TD. It would be the worst if somehow that was the designed call to do a lateral play, why even chance it? Just running it straight ahead, hey maybe you get a facemask or something. But a lateral play is asking for what we got, and we're all grateful they did.
