I always think if 2 people are getting laid off and all things are equal in terms of pay, ability, etc, then likeability comes into play and the person that gets to keep their job is the one that everyone enjoys being around. So if I gotta wear a tie and make some ####ty banter for a couple hours to people I likely won't see again until the next work party, then that's the cost.
Now, hanging out with other parents because our kids picked the same extra-curricular activity, that's a whole different story.
