I think there just isn't a lot of enthusiasm on the offensive side of the puck and it comes back to the group of men behind the bench and the box they're trying to cram this group of guys into and it's sucking the offense dry
given that the quality of defensive coverage has been generally poor anyways, they might as well try to spark a little more room to roam on the other side
these guys need to have more fun out there
maybe, if they tried that, the players will reward them with more inspired effort on the backcheck, who knows..

Just don't see it.
Coaches at this level have systems in their own zone, systems for transition ... an insistence of support with a high F3, forechecking rules for F1 and F2. Pretty much every team is the same with a few wrinkles.
Almost no one tells offensive players how to play offence.
They either do it or they don't have the talent to do it, which is back to the GM.
If you can't play and find an offensive spark, or exuberance in a system that requires some two way responsibility you're not an NHL hockey player.
