I would exclude newer comics, there's been some good specials from younger comics.

I think stand up comedy in a way has bene ruined by cell phones.
Gone are the days when you could hone your act while touring, refine your material, getting rid of what doesn't work. Then you'd have your big televised special for which you could provide a tight, focused, hilarious set.
Now every stand up club appearance can be filmed and you can't work on your act like you used to. So if you want your televised show to have something fresh you're brining untested and unworked material.
