I held Dave Chappelle as number two in the comedy world, Norm Macdonald at number one. Norm was the purest comedian in the world, the joke was always king with him.
Chappelle used to be that way, but in the last few years, after his netflix deal, he's started slipping into making points at every turn (make no mistake, bringing Elon on stage was another point he was going to make about progressives going too far before he stood there stunned at his audiences reaction and got thrown off and started calling them poor). It's fine, he's allowed to do that, but I'm not a fan of the direction he's taken.
He went from the fearless, hilarious comedian to trying to play the wise old, truth dispenser. Fans can state that it's an art and you can't decipher the difference between comedy and making points/becoming political because it's an act, but I'm a comedy lover and I can see it when I see it. And Chappelle is caught up in making points and clearly craves the headlines these days.
He can have that and I can not like it and I don't like him these days. I still hold him up as a top 5 comedian through body of work, however.
