Well I think a player is able to decide if the hit he is about to level on someone is likely to injure them. Reaves hit him as hard as he could. At this point, the players are too big and too fast for that kind of violent collision.

I know people like big hits. I do too. But when the hits are so big that players can't walk away from them, what is the point exactly?

If a player gets hurt, and the hitter could have avoided it, maybe there needs to be some repercussions. Regardless of how "legal" the hit was.
