Its literally ridiculous to look at the Oilers cap situation and believe unless they're going to give up major assets to aquire a good defenseman where they get a salary break, that its going to happen.
Even going into next year, they have a roster of 14 and 10.8 million to fill it to 22 that they're not in a ridiculous amount of cap trouble.
If Skinner even continues to have a decent season as their starter that he's not getting a minimum of 4.5. Bouchard is going to push for 5 or might do less on a short term deal. Kostin is meh, but he's going to at least hit 2.5.
So they're going to literally be at the cap with 17 players and have to replace guys like Poolparty who ain't going to be back if they can't trade him, and replace 3 or 4 guys on their worthless bottom 6.
The Oilers are being pushed into a cap corner where they might have to trade either a RNH, Tyson Barrie for cap release while getting next to nothing back. or enough low rent players to fill their lineup.
They're being pushed so hard, that they're probably going to be forced no matter what to trade a guy like Draisaitl to get some sanity to back to their cap. Because when you look at what happens after next year, especially with their poor history of their draft. Next year is really the end of their competitive window.
