Does anyone have insurance rates like these people in that report are getting? I found a comparable person that has a 4 year older vehicle with less than half the milage in that report and the report has them paying 25% more.

Do the government insurers offer bundling and discounts for adding house coverage? The report specifically indicates they don’t apply any of those discounts. In a private insurer province you’d expect the bundling and discounts to be higher then in a government only province.

That said insurance of vehicles and house should be regulated with an overhead plus profit model based on actuarial predictions.

Edit: I figured out what they did. They took the median insurance offer from the provinces with private insurers and not the minimum offer. I think this is a misleading methodology as in genera you should be shopping for insurance. In general Alberta is still more expensive but it makes it closer rather than double.

In genera where Albertans get screwed is kids learning to drive being double the non private sector provinces.
