Here's the thing - last time around, Trudeau actually came out and said "unless we win a majority, we might just have to turn around and call another election in 18 months". That was obscene, idiotic, and was rightly condemned by CPC supporters, and others. Instead, the government entered into an agreement with the NDP to ensure that they wouldn't call an election in the near future. That may result in policy decisions that you don't like (and I don't like - the federal NDP are a joke as far as I'm concerned) but it's a legitimate way to operate in a parliamentary democracy.
In Alberta, there has been full-scale regime change. This UCP is not the same as Kenney's UCP. Whether you thought Kenney's UCP was incompetent or maybe you thought the criticisms were exaggerated by his critics, it's clear that Smith's regime operates very differently. When government changes that significantly, it should go to the voters at large, not the party membership, as soon as reasonably possible, to determine if this is the government they want.
