Best Movie: I think I went to one movie in 2004 - Spiderman - but I do catch a few on satellite. "The Snow Walker" was great, watched it a few times. That was probably my favourite movie of the year. I watched "Collateral" a few nights ago (a Christmas present) and really liked that one too.
Worst Movie: I'm good at avoiding bad movies particularly if all it takes is a click of the channel changer.
Best Song: Not into music much beyond what's on the radio and a flick of the button. I like the new Randy Travis album and the song "Train."
Worst Song: Nothing can top the screeching abomination presented by U2 on a Johnny Cash special but that's from a few years ago.
Best sports moment: Beating Vancouver, Game 7. Everything after that was gravy.
Worst sports moment: Losing Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final in Calgary to an inferior team. Of the four teams Calgary faced, Tampa was the most eminently beatable . . . . but, as coach Sutter said, they ran out of bodies.
Best non-hockey sports moment: My deft play at third base in my company slowpitch tourney. Hahahaha. Ah well, the Olympic Marathon and other Olympic running events were interesting, trying to guess which competitors were juiced. The Red Sox Game 7 win over New York, although a bit of a blowout, was fun.
Memorable News events: Tsunami obviously, Canadian and USA elections, Afghan elections, ongoing Iraq events . . . . . the globe is never a dull place. Every year starts off with pestilence, disease, disaster, conflict . . . . . and yet we somehow manage to plug along. It's a tumultuous - and great - time to be alive.
Overall assessment: Some career and personal milestones were achieved. A greater sense of security all around. A decent year personally although the body athletically is starting to feel old for the first time. Ran a half marathon in a decent time and other lesser races and I'm still pretty fast in the pool. But, it's getting time to face facts - small miracles are all I've got left to cling to now!!
What to look forward to in 2005: Our 20th wedding anniversary and the travel plans we're thinking about for that right now. I'm looking forward to the coming year.
