I'm obviously not an NFL coach for a reason, but I would have tried to run up the score as much as possible before the half and then run clock in the second-half of the game.
Its a weird balance, and yeah, I'm a youth coach. But I have this simple philosophy when I play call.

For the first 3/4. I put the foot on the gas, My playbook is pretty wide open, I want to get as big of a lead as possible and leave nothing to chance. If I'm up by a bunch in the forth, I'll empty the bench, and my playbook goes to about 6 plays, 4 runs in the middle with low risk, 1 screen and 1 pass with short and mid routes.

Its boring for the guys coming off the bench but it is what it is.

During the playoffs this year, and this might be funny . . . or not.

We jumped to a 32 point lead in the first half. When I was talking to the officials at the half one of them said "You know, if you get up by 35 we go to run time and don't stop the clock". And I looked at him and said "Coming right up". On the first drive we scored. And then I pretty much ran the ball in the middle and told the QB to milk the clock.
