When a player is on LTIR, a team may exceed the salary cap. Despite the common misconception, LTIR does not remove a Cap Hit from a team’s overall Cap Hit, it just potentially allows the team to exceed the salary cap.
While on LTIR, Cap Space is no longer accrued, meaning any portion of the LTIR pool not used cannot be used later.
I don't think most people are talking about LTIR. They mean actual cap recovery for a player that needed a leave of absence and couldn't play for an entire season. That $2.5 million accrued over a season could have a major effect on what the GM can do. Not sure if that is even possible.

I mean, it is probably bad taste to even discuss and I feel bad. It is probably small compared to whatever OK is going through. This will be the last post about it for me. Just wanted to clarify.
