Thankfully, that Eddie Bauer jacket posted earlier is a bomber because I prefer the longer jacket...otherwise I'd probably consider it!
Certainly. But I think the point that most are stating is need vs want and value. Someone can stay warm for half the cost of the Canada Goose jacket, easily. You know you're splurging vs thinking you "need" the premium jacket to stay warm. That's the difference. I don't think anyone has an issue with your line of thinking. The issue they have is that some people consider CG to be the go to minimum standard which is dumb.

I've worn the CG jacket too. It was decent value in the $500-600 range when it was sold at the Bay. Now that it's publicly listed and have their own stores, at $900-1200 for the same jackets, it's poor value. Poor value does not mean poor performance.

There's nothing wrong with the CG jackets. It's the concept of people saying, "It's the only thing that will keep you warm during Calgary winters." which is wrong. CG jackets are also not great for skiing and snowboarding. It's fine, but not great.
