Have to believe that Markstrom’s confidence is at an all time low. He didn’t think he could make a save on a breakaway chance, so he foolishly leaves his net to chase down a puck that clearly wasn’t a 50-50.
If he has to bail out and slide to ensure that there’s no play on the puck, then he’s left himself extremely vulnerable for a possible second opportunity which is exactly what happened. That’s why goalies probably shouldn’t leave their net unless they’re 100% confident that they can make a comfortable play with their stick.
If this is the game that ensures Vladar starts playing more, then I guess it was a well worthy sacrifice because surely Darryl’s trust in Markstrom has to have wavered by now.
