i was looking at the final standings for the past few full seasons - ignored the covid years - and last year the 8th place team in the west had 97pts, then it was 90 in 2018-2019 and then 95 in 2017-2018.
as of right now the Oilers, Blues, Wild, flames and Nucks are on pace for about 82 points - seems like quite a drop off from past years.
I realize the general feeling is that the flames have had a hard schedule thus far, and I am going to assume that the flames, oilers and Nux have all had a pretty similar schedule thus far - so perhaps in the last 3/4's of the season these teams who are fighting it out for a spot pick up the pace to get to something around 92 to make the playoffs
