There is a lot more information i would need to really give you a good answer.
If there quite a bit of astigmatism it is likely the vision will be better with glasses than contacts.
If the fit is poor (too flat or too steep) then the vision can also be affected.
If it is the first set he is trying then it may just be a tweak in the prescription that is required.
Costco also has a more limited selection of brands as they do not care all contact lens options. It is possible they do not have a lens that would work with him. Independent Optometry offices do not have limitations on what they can order.
Personally, I counsel that once we get comfort and fit down we can tweak the prescription as needed. Also to not expect perfection on the first try as there is an element of trial and error to contact lenses.
