Again, not defending the shop, because whatever. But go find ‘supplier’ cost for any other regulated trade and compare. Automotive trades don’t even have the option of working out of a van, they have more overhead than almost any other trade and it’s a constant race to the bottom. Miserable trade.

I don't begrudge a shop adding margin on parts
to a reasonable degree, they need to keep the lights on, etc. I get that. 100% markup is one thing, this is over 300%, and I don't have some sneaky backdoor to cheap parts, just the usual public sources for new retail parts.
One of the parts -- I believe it was the hubs and wheel bearing assembly -- I was told cost ~$1,000
each. That's pure horsesh-t, the absolutely most expensive I could find it anywhere on the internet was on Rimmer Bros for $473.94 each after exchange and UK VAT (which we don't pay).
