Canada’s economy lost almost $13 billion over the past year due to a nationwide labour and skill shortage in the manufacturing sector, a new report has found.
Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters’ (CME) annual labour survey of 563 manufacturers in 17 industries across the country found that almost two thirds have lost or turned down contracts and experienced production delays due to a lack of workers.

This is interesting, because to me it is a combination of issues.
Companies not paying enough.
Not enough emphasis on training skilled workers to fill these spots.
People not wanting to work in this industry because it is physical labour.
Which has brought us to high immigration levels to try and fill jobs.
A couple provinces have woken up and realized that provinces are responsible for education, and perhaps they need to invest more into skilled trades instead of constantly blaming the feds for everything. But maybe little too late? With a high level of retirees coming from these sectors, the shortage we see now will be a blip on the radar compared to where we will be in 5-10-20 years.
