Rhett is getting fooled by points to determine the value of a d-man. Honestly he barely watched the games when he was in Calgary - doubt he's been watching the late starts when he's in Buffalo.
At 5v5 Weegar is:
Corsi: 59.6%
Goals For: 64.7% (11 GF / 6 GA)
xGF: 61.7% (13 GF / 8 GA - 1st on the team)
Those are all pretty elite numbers for a guy who's faced pretty tough competition this year and has not been sheltered at all.
Only 50 NHL d-men have more than 4 points at 5v5...so since he's not getting any PP time you wouldn't expect him to have more than the 4 points he has.
Not sure it would really make a difference on his effectiveness if he had 4 points or 7 points - he contributing to tilting the ice and score in the right direction.
