The idea that the NHL couldn’t make money off a best-on-best tournament held every four years is laughable.
All they have to do is commit to holding it every four years.
Not 1996, 2004, 2016, never.
It has to be a regular thing.
And if you were to hold it in 24/28/32/36 etc, in the alternate 26/30/34 etc years, the defending World Cup champions play a team comprised of players from every other country (say to a max of 4 per country).
The details don’t matter. The spectacle does.
