Giovinco wasnt every really good enough for italy to feature consistently, he had a nice two year run, 1 at Parma and then back at juve, otherwise he was squad player level for them.
For volpato, chances are he wont become a regular for italy, but the risk v reward in his own mind makes sense here. Australia is always gonna be there, he kept his response diplomatic so that it is. If hes not in the senior squad in 4 years for Italy, he probably commits to australia. So for him, missing 1 world cup is worth the chance of potentially a career of world cups and euros
