I also found The Guard more comedic than In Bruges, but I like the latter more. For me it was just a more engaging piece of work, balancing comedy with more drama.

Note however that The Guard was written and directed by John Michael McDonagh, who also directed Calvary. In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin are written and directed by his brother, Martin McDonagh.
