You pull their bottom eyelid down and squeeze a line of it in that little eyelid pocket. Then they close their eyes and it rubs all around.

Wow, I've never heard of that before and it sounds awful and ridiculous. I know that drops are bad enough to get into kid's eyes. I'd almost think that with this ointment stuff it might be best to try to pull down their eyelid while sleeping and squeeze it on the eye.
