Except there never was a compelled speech component of C16, and almost every legal opinion and the opinion of constitutional scholars made it very clear he was talking firmly out of his ass. Also he didn't get driven away from his chosen profession. He voluntarily left because the right-wing griftosphere is infinitely more lucrative than a tenured professor gig.
The dude has also since then doubled-down on some of the most transphobic #### you can say/do (e.g. dead-naming Elliot Page).
