Miller still has a path to the NHL, he just made it a whole lot harder for himself. He could go the the KHL, and if he's good enough and show that he's become a better human, the possibility of playing in the NHL is still open.
Anyone who thinks that denying him an NHL contract is ruining his life is really stretching things. Worst case is he lives a regular non-hockey life, with the benefit of not carrying the trauma of being severely bullied. So his worst case scenario is still better than his victim's life circumstances.
