The fact it was an entry level deal and not the AHL/ECHL agreement you mentioned tells me that other teams were interested as well which is a sad statement about the league.
Sweeney's comments today are interesting. It sounds to me like Neely told him to sign the kid and he didn't want to.

They also look like they're trying to sweep it under the rug. The signing is not on their website and they didn't even use a photo of him, using a photo of their centre ice logo instead.
