My two Golden's have been known to get in foot races with deer on our wanderings around the pasturelands next to our home. Abby went toe-to-toe with a moose once, fortunately a juvenile too inexperienced to just stomp her to death outright. When she was still a puppy and before we built our fence, I found her in the neighbouring barnyard industriously digging up a gopher hole while surrounded by thousands of pounds of bulls. In fact, as I was typing this I looked out the window and both her and Keeper were roaring down our fence line chasing the neighbour Border Collie who was chasing a coyote.

Anyway, they ain't afraid of much.

One non-descript morning they were up early and out in our fenced four acres, their sanctuary they can't get out of, the tall grass waving around them, the sun just peaking over the far eastern hill.

Suddenly one of them comes roaring back up the hill to the house, tail between its legs, looking frantically over its shoulder for whatever beastie might be chasing it.

And the other was frozen stiff in petrification.

While they were wandering their turf, a deer that had spent the night snoozing had stood up directly behind them, scaring the crap out of them.

It leisurely bounded away and over our fence, with no one giving chase.

Revenge of the deer family.

Abby ain't askeerd of nuthin' . . . . except surprises.
