Back in 2015 we had something similar happen in Shanghai on NYE when the crowd gathered to watch the fireworks in a very popular area suddenly panicked and around 30-40 people got killed with many others injured. I remember the rush in the crowd being caused by people thinking large amounts of cash was getting thrown down to the crowd from a rooftop party or something, but I don't remember if that was ever confirmed or not. Either way, an awful way for a lot of young people to lose their lives. I didn't know anyone directly affected by that event, and really hoping my friends in Seoul are all good and haven't lost anyone they know in this.
