Disagree.
Any talk the Oilers make about defense is simply lip service.
Collectively as an entire team they are numb to giving up goals.
They are looking for all offence, all the time. Their top line and even the second line will continue to jump their zone early looking for an odd man rush. Or stay deeper or longer in the offensive zone.
A big reason why the Flames didn't win last playoffs was simply that the Flames (and most teams) have a conscious about defending, and when goals went in off the rush or whatever, it got in the teams' head and individual players confidence took a hit, in game and in series..
When the Oilers give up multiple goals, they literally don't care, it doesn't affect their game plan or their individual confidence like it should, and just try and score more.
Did the Oilers make adjustments game 1 when they gave up the first 4 goals the Flames scored first? Nope, they kept making the same plays which left the goalies hung out to dry. Then they got the puck breaks they look for and got goals back, but the the Flames defenders (Hanifan and Andersson especially) instantly started to play different. By game 3, when Oilers scored on 4 of 6 odd man ruahes in half a period, they had zero confidence left.
