Hey pylon, have you shared your thoughts on the mk8 GTI?
It's not really for me.

My thoughts are well known on digital cockpits in cars, and unfortunately there is way too much touchpad/screen stuff for my liking. It drives nice, and pulls a bit harder, but feels 'number' than the previous cars.

The absolute pinnacle of the Golf/GTI line for me, was the 2016/2017 Golf R. That car was utterly perfect. It had all the cool stuff, but was still button and switch analog. Completely understated as anyone but all the hardcore enthusiasts would have thought you just had a fancy Golf with 19's. Lacked any over the top wings, fairings, or honey comb trim. It was such a classy, tasteful car that had incredible performance.

It was such a unique car it had the broadest demographic I have ever seen for the couple years we had it. 25 year old kids with good taste would opt for it over STI's and Focus RS's as their full time driver. And we had ultra rich people in their 50s/60s/70s that drove Turbo 911's and Ferrari's in the summer that used it as their winter car/grocery getter. The amount of million plus dollar mansions in this city that have one stashed in their garage is crazy. And a ton of these cars have very little miles on them and I always try to unsuccessfully buy them back when they are in for service.

The 18 and 19 saw the same demographic, but the analog feel of the 16/17 was always the tipping point for me.

The new car just feels like your driving a gaming PC, much like the new Mustang will probably feel. My wife had one of the first 2022's Rs, but sold hers and opted to go back to a low mileage 2018 R.
