I have to say that I laughed quite a bit after reading this post. So much of the first bit applies to a much broader population than students. I think it has been clearly demonstrated that there are quite a large number of people above the age of 18 who do not have the experience and knowledge to make an informed decision. I definitely share your worries about the "dumbing down" of the voter base, but I don't think that extending the privilege to students is going to exacerbate that. It may actually improve it!
And yes of course, darn those extreme environmentalists going after the generations that will actually have to live with the consequences instead of the older ones who couldn't be bothered as it won't actually affect them.
