I would love to see what the above forward lines could do. We lose some center depth but upgrade the 1st line which hasn't been good at all 5v5. The 2nd line is a repeat of last year's, which was pretty good. 3rd line can be sheltered with offensive starts and should be able to put the puck in the net. 4th can cycle out the wingers to stay fresh and check with pace.

This completely defeats the purpose for the Flames centre depth that was specifically targeted and intentionally upgraded in the off season. The obsession some posters have with the first line engenders ideas that significantly diminish the depth that is integral to this team's success. I think one of the reasons that Backlund has had such an awesome start to the year is in how his matchups have dramatically changed with the trickle-down of improved centre depth. Loading up the top line makes every one of the lines past it worse.
