However, to say he was being considerate is ridiculous. He was looking out for #1 all along. He had a great season under Sutter and realized he was never getting a bigger pay day than now. He has a very short list of teams he would go to. Tkachuk was taking care of himself and didn't care what happened to the Flames sinking ship.
Treliving was the one who somehow turned this brutal hand into a royal flush. Tkachuk doesn't deserve any credit for helping the Flames.

I'm sure I'm in the minority that actually commiserates with Johnny more so than Tkachuk. I truly believe Johnny wanted to be here, but life took over and he had to make a decision for his family that he likely didn't want to make.
I don't think Tkachuk ever had any intention of being here long term, so like you said, he was just out for #1 and couldn't give a damn about the team. With that said, he was definitely more professional about the situation than Johnny was and allowed us to keep our team rolling, but it was also mutually beneficial for him to do that so that he could cash in when his value was the highest. Who knows what his contract would have looked like next year without Johnny passing him the puck.
So I like to look at it as Johnny actually wanted to be here and sign long term and Tkachuk had no intention of doing so.
