Well the Patrick Kane train has started chugging in the rumor mill. I'm not going to link anything because I am lazy and you are all good at the internet.

Lebrun wrote in the Athletic this morning that Patrick Kane is essentially going the Claude Giroux route this year. He wants to stick around Chicago to see if they are going to be any good this year, if they are not, he is willing to be traded and Chicago is willing to retain half of his salary.

This morning on TSN Craig Button runs with it and gives his list of best fits for Kane. Who is number 1 you ask? Calgary of course. (Obviously just Button's specualtion at this point)

Now we all know that Kane would have zero desire to sign with Calgary and the Flames don't have the cap for it. So it would be a pure rental. Given that Calgary is likely to be a contender this season, I think Calgary would be in the mix for a team that he would be willing to go to for a few months in the spring.

Personally, I don't see it happening due to the cost to acquire him, and the fact that he would be a pure rental. Also there are American teams out east that will be contenders that he may be willing to sign with that could be willing to pay a lot of futures to acquire.

Don't really see it happening at all for Calgary, but its fun to get the rumor mill churning.
